What to wear to a boudoir session—without overthinking it.

Start with fit—not the size on the tag.

If you spend the entire session adjusting a strap, pulling something down or worrying that a piece is cutting in, it is not the right piece for this shoot. A better fit will photograph better and let you focus on the direction Chelsea is giving you.

Try each option while standing, sitting and lying down. Raise your arms. Turn sideways. If you immediately want to fix it, bring another option. The camera notices clean lines and confident movement far more than a number printed inside the garment.

Create variety instead of buying three versions of the same outfit.

A session feels more complete when the outfits change the mood—not just the color. You do not need an overflowing shopping bag. A few pieces with different shapes and textures give Chelsea more ways to build a gallery that does not feel repetitive.

• One fitted option, such as a bodysuit, matching set or simple dress.
• One softer layer, such as an oversized sweater, robe or button-down shirt.
• One personal piece connected to your story, style, wedding or relationship.

Lingerie is optional.

Boudoir does not require a lace set. A favorite tank, worn-in jeans, a sweater that falls off one shoulder or a meaningful shirt can feel more personal than something purchased only because it looked like boudoir online.

If lingerie is part of your plan, choose it because you like how you feel in it. Bodysuits are especially versatile because they create a clean line and can be styled softly, dramatically or editorially depending on the light and pose.

Small details matter on camera.

Chelsea will fix the details you cannot see during the session, but it helps to arrive with pieces that are ready to photograph. Put each outfit together completely before packing it rather than assuming you will remember the right bra, underwear or accessory later.

• Remove store tags and stickers before session day.
• Steam pieces that wrinkle and pack them on hangers when possible.
• Check that straps and closures sit where you want them.
• Bring the shoes, jewelry or personal item that belongs with each look.
• Avoid prominent logos unless they are intentionally part of the story.

Bring options. You do not have to make every decision alone.

Most sessions include two to three outfit changes, but it is completely fine to bring more possibilities. Chelsea helps narrow the final choices based on fit, variety, the studio light and the overall look you want.

Outfit help begins before the session. Send photographs of what you are considering, ask the honest question and bring the backup piece. The goal is not to judge your closet. It is to make sure each final choice contributes something different to your photographs.
